Hey! Who’s Elderly Guy At The Bear Paw? Isn’t That John McCain?

13 06 2008

Someone who looks and talks suspiciously like John McCain is going to be at Missouri State University on Wednesday for a town hall meeting.  I’m sure there won’t be any students there openly disrespectful and hateful toward the presumptive Republican nominee for President.

(For those who didn’t get that second line, it’s use of sarcasm.  If McCain’s appearance goes off without some students acting entirely inappropriately, you better start lookin’ for Jesus because it’s rapture time.)

McCain will reportedly be speaking about energy policy which is on all our minds as gasoline prices continue to climb.  No word yet on whether Senator McCain will be speaking to the press at any point during his Springfield stop.

Now, this stop hasn’t been officially listed on John McCain’s website so I would think there’s a possibility it could get changed.  (Well, it could even if on the calendar but at least if it was there it would appear more official.)  So don’t get your hopes completely up that McCain will be here.  If he does come, it will be interested to see if presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama will come to Springfield or if he’ll only hit St. Louis and Kansas City during his campaign.

School’s out so I think there are less crazy students on campus (just based on probability). But, It seems that there would be less vitriol toward McCain than other Republican candidates. Although, maybe I’m wrong and already out of touch.

It will also depend on your definition of “disrespectful and hateful.” I have no doubt that there will be protesters, but simply chanting war protests doesn’t seem disrespectful and hateful to me. Personal attacks, of course, would be over the line.

Oh, I agree…protesters chanting war protests are fine. I just look at the far left blogs and the personal vitriol that is hurled toward McCain and I just fear that’s what we will end up seeing if he actually comes to town. A civil protest against the war or even supporting Obama are fine because that’s just typical election speech…it when people run to Geritol smack that I think it becomes disrespectful.

It’s the same thing as when idiots on the far right were calling Hillary the “B” word. Disagree with her, fine. Say her views are horrible for the country, fine. Say she’s not really qualified to be President because of her experience, fine. Calling her a B-word? Out of line.
