City Council Agenda Posted…Let’s Get Ready To Rumble!

1 05 2008

The agenda for Monday night’s Council meeting has been posted and the budget is there for commenting.  There will be a public hearing on the budget following the second reading bills.  It says that it’s not anticipated to be voted on and let’s hope that it isn’t voted on!

Something of note:

COUNCIL BILL 2008-133. (Carlson) PUBLIC HEARING WILL BE HELD FOLLOWING SECOND READING BILLS. NOT ANTICIPATED TO BE VOTED ON. A special ordinance setting a preliminary levy tax on real and personal property for current expenses and debt retirement of the City of Springfield, Missouri, its boards and agencies, for the fiscal year 2008-2009, and declaring an emergency.

Just so there’s no misunderstanding…this isn’t a tax increase or that tax City Manager Cumley found on the books that Council said they weren’t going to levy.  This is just the bill that will set the tax rates already in place and I’ve been told by the City that these are the same levy as this current budget year.

If you plan to be there to voice your opinions on the budget submitted by the City Manager to Council, I suggest that you contact City Clerk Brenda Cirtin before 5pm Monday and make sure you get on the list of speakers.  Her office number is 864-1650.  You can also e-mail her as well.
