It’s Not Halprin After All

18 04 2008

The Springfield News-Leader broke the story this morning that the square which some preservationist groups are rushing to save because it was “designed by a master architect Lawrence Halprin” are facing a tougher challenge today…because the square wasn’t designed by Halprin but rather someone who worked in his office.

Hopefully this means the people from Washington DC can butt out of our business along with the folks from Jefferson City and we can do what we need to do so that the city doesn’t have to buy back the Heer’s tower.

Using that logic, John Q didn’t build any hotels either.

Really? Where is someone trying to get a hotel designated a historic landmark because they say it was built by John Q. Hammons?

Regardless of historical landmark or not the city of Springfield should not have tied the square redevelopment in with the sale of the Heer’s Tower, nor should they have sought out federal money to pay for this project.
