…it’s just the other members of the Municipal Government Academy who took a guided tour of the Jordan Valley underground courtesy of the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks. (But it does look like a rock band photo for an album cover, doesn’t it?) Note the shell of the Crime Lab in the background.
I’ll say this…it was really really cool going through the underground. There’s something that’s just cool about the “hidden” part of the city.
That’s Mike Kromrey of the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks with his hand at about the level the water was rushing through that channel during the flood. (Kromrey did a really good job with the tour.)
I’ll say this…if someone doesn’t respect the power of rushing water then they need to take a stroll through the underground area and see some of the things that we saw under the roads and buildings. We saw large rocks, we saw bricks, construction debris of all kinds like concrete blocks.
There were all kinds of interesting things but not as much graffiti as I thought there would be down there. The graffiti we did see had intelligence to it…quoting famous philosophers or political leaders. Very few inane comments. And…contrary to reports we’ve heard…no vampires in there!
It would be interesting to go in there with more lights than we had so you could really illuminate the channel and get a good look at the structures that are under there like supports under the National Audio building.
I don’t want to really make the rest of the city staff feel bad by saying this was the coolest part of the Municipal Government Academy but…well…it was. By a mile.

Dang,
I completely let this slip by. I spent the evening out at my daughter’s place cleaning up from the water damage caused by the recent rains.
