The Discovery Center has opened the first phase of the very long awaited ChromoZone. The coolest part of it in my opinion is the fact is has an actual working scientific lab where real experiments are taking place (and not just demonstrations of experiments.)
The boys loved the new exhibit area and we want to thank Laramie for doing such a great job explaining to Dale how a microscope works and showing him some paramecium.
And on the heels of finding out Eli has an IQ of 115 (proving what dad always knew…there’s a brilliant kid under the hard shell of autism) I see a keen interest in the sciences from soon-to-be Doctor Eli:
Dale discovered one of the computers in the WorldWise exhibit apparently doesn’t have it’s net filter on today and so I was able to post these photos while we’re still here. So you can come down today and meet Laramie and have her show you all the wonders of the new ChromoZone.
Dale’s flying high today because he finished his book for March in the Discovery Center’s Reading Club and get a prize because he did it for three months in a row. Dale loves to read and I do all I can to encourage it…so it’s wonderful when a place he absolutely loves like the Discovery Center and can help encourage that as well.
If you haven’t taken your kids to the Center you’re really missing out on the premiere place to take kids in Springfield. My kids want to come here every weekend they visit their dad regardless of the weather outside. Dale would live here if he had the chance. This is really the best bang for a parent’s buck in Springfield.

I wish there had been the Discovery Center operating when I was a kid here, but damn glad it’s here and slowly building into something that is quite amazing.
Definitely encourage books, no matter how much they may get teased for it in the future. My grandparents, whom I lived with, even though they were farmer types absolutely encouraged reading. Literacy really is an overlooked gift of civilization anymore.
Jason, THANK YOU for continuing to share your experiences at DCS! It is so encouraging to me personally to hear that you and your children are finding so many reasons to continue to visit the center! We too are VERY excited about the long awaited opening of the ChromoZone gallery! And there’s still more to come! Revisit again in about 2 weeks and be ready to explore the Traits of Life exhibit, arriving today, and being installed throughout this week!!!! Eli and Dale will have even more reasons to want to stay! Your stories are a definite bright spot! Please keep sharing! (And now to go find out why the filter isn’t working in WorldWise……)
YOU ARE WELCOME! My supervisor brought your blog to my attention and I couldn’t stop smiling! I’m so glad I was able to get your boys so excited about science because…that’s the whole point! I feel so blessed to work at the Discovery Center because not only do I love science and kids, but I love what the Discovery Center is all about…and that is to open the eyes of kids and adults alike to the world around them, how it relates to them, and how they can get involved. If you haven’t yet, you need to bring your kids to see the new Traits of Life exhibits, they’ll love it, I know I do!
