The Chestnut Expressway and National Avenue intersection in central Springfield is scheduled to close beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2008 and reopen by 6 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2008. The closing is necessary to complete several tasks as part of the intersection widening project that will provide dual left-turn lanes in all directions. During the weekend closing, contractor crews will cut out a section of the roadway in the intersection to install a large concrete box culvert. Storm drains will be installed and pavement repaired.
Traffic on Chestnut Expressway (Business Loop 44) will be detoured to Glenstone Avenue (Business Route 65), Kansas Expressway (Route 13) and Kearney Street (Route 744). Traffic on National Avenue will be detoured to Trafficway, Fremont Avenue, and Central Street. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes during the weekend closing.
