Springfield Needs A Classic Movie Festival

OK, first, forgive me if this is happening and I just don’t know about it.  Leave info in the comments about it. :)

I was watching the classic Jack Lemmon/Tony Curtis/Marilyn Monroe movie “Some Like It Hot” and while it was on DVD with digital surround sound it just still wasn’t the same as seeing it on a big movie screen.  When I was in college, I took two semesters of film classes as electives just because I had the chance to see some of the best films of the 20th century on a big screen the way the filmmakers intended for it to be.  “Gandhi“, “The Godfather“, “Yojimbo“, “Casablanca“, “Touch Of Evil“, “Citizen Kane“…while they’re great movies on DVD or video they just lose something when they’re not seen on the silver screen.

I don’t know how feasible it could be for something like this but I would love to see a Classic Movie Fest come to Springfield.  (Maybe those enterprising folks at the Moxie could give up one weekend of the hard to see indie movies to pay tribute the golden age of Hollywood past.)  Maybe we could make it some kind of fundraising weekend for local charities.

I just think it would be a great time for many people to see the classic films in the way they were originally shown (or as close as you can get it if you can’t get original prints of the films.)  Then again, it might be impossible…but it’s a nice dream.

That is a great idea. Maybe a classic movie theater downtown would be good.
