The gateway plaza appears to be progressing and three possible designs for it are up for your comments. If you’d like to take a peek and sound off on what millions of your tax dollars are going to be spent upon you can do so Tuesday night from 5:30-8:00 in the upper lobby of Jordan Valley Ice Park on East Trafficway. The meeting is being hosted by City in conjunction with GreenWorks PC and Hagerman New Urbanism.
Greenworks PC is the group that created the designs for the former quarry site. The designs, according to a city press release, are “concepts based on three overall design ideas identified through a series of public input sessions that began in February 2007. They include a naturalistic focus, an events focus and a ‘play’ focus. Each design features open green space, sustainability of natural resources and recognition of Springfield’s Sister Cities.” The project is going to be the eastern gateway to Jordan Valley Park.
They’ll also have the designs on the city’s website starting Wednesday for your comments as well.
Now, I want to emphasize that the tax dollars being spent are FEDERAL tax dollars secured by Rep. Roy Blunt with NO local matching funds. There is also an outside chance some of these funds could also go toward the preliminary designs for the next phase of the Jordan Valley project (the East Meadows north of the ice park and amphitheater.) So, it’s still your tax dollars but it’s the ones you send to DC and not to the Busch Municipal Building.
