This just in from the city:
The City of Springfield will waive fees at the Yardwaste Recycling Center and the Springfield Municipal Landfill for Springfield-Greene County residents to dispose of brush and limb debris from this week’s ice storm.
Both sites will begin accepting the ice-storm debris on Thursday, Feb. 14. The YRC is closed completely until Thursday because of current weather conditions and the clearing that needs to take place there before re-opening.
The fees for disposal of ice-storm vegetative debris will be waived at both facilities through Saturday, Feb. 23. (EDIT: This has been extended to March 16.)
There is no plan for curbside debris removal as the amount of debris is not expected to rise anywhere near the level of the historic January 2007 ice storm.
Brush taken to the Yardwaste Recycling Facility should be cut in maximum 4-foot lengths and must be less than six inches in diameter.
At the Landfill, there is no restriction on the size of limbs and brush except that individuals must be able to unload their own debris. No stumps and root balls are permitted at the drop-off site, but can be taken to an adjacent area of the landfill. There is a charge of $28.65 a ton for stumps and rootballs.
Both facilities are available to citizens as part of the City’s voter-approved Integrated Solid Waste Management System.
City and County leaders encourage residents and business owners to limit their clean-up efforts to minimal clearing and maintaining brush at their own sites until weather and road conditions improve.

If the city government has a balanced budget and can’t deficit spend how is it that a function of the budget is 140 million dollars in the RED. This is called deficit spending, but be a polished politician Mr. Deaver knows how to play the system to make it appear that all is well.
On a secondary note KUDO’S to Dan Chiles for on the issue of the city square he was the one and only taxpayers advocate
