I have to admit the times I heard all the “It’s All Downtown” promotional spots for Springfield I would laugh at them. Living at the edges of the town I knew there was a lot of things to do that didn’t require the hassle of trying to go downtown to try and find parking. Now, I have to admit that I might have been wrong when laughing at the slogan.
I made another great discovery…O’Connell’s Deli at 212 W. McDaniel St. (just west of the intersection of South Street and McDaniel.) I’ve had one breakfast sandwich and two regular sandwiches from O’Connell’s and I haven’t had sandwiches that good in a LONG time. Their chicken salad was fantastic and their variety of sandwiches is going to draw me back to try more of them!
Plus, I like the little mom and pop feel of the place. They’re so friendly and welcoming. They even remembered me and that I just recently moved downtown even though I’d only been in their restaurant one time before today! (Now, to be fair, their sandwiches aren’t going to top the Philadelphia Cheesesteak from DiGiacinto’s…but the sandwiches they make that Sam doesn’t make are very very good.)
So I have to make a public mea culpa…it IS all downtown. With the new parking garages, perhaps you might want to take some time and check it out if you don’t usually go downtown.
