Making It Right

1 01 2008

So often we get situations where a restaurant gets a delivery order wrong and their response is to either refund the money or just apologize and say there is nothing they can do.  Last night, I had just the opposite happen and I wanted to give some props for two companies who went a step above in customer service.

We were at home with the kids and neither Amy nor myself felt like going out to get dinner.  Instead, we decided to call QuikDine and have them bring over some food from Cielito Lindo.  I hopped online, made the order and then we waited.  (Minimum delivery time is 45-75 minutes.)

At the end of the 75 minutes, our driver showed up and while I was signing for the food said that Cielito Lindo was closing early because they were running out of food due to being overly busy all day.  He said that they just barely finished my order but that it should be good and fresh.  I thanked him, said Happy New Year and took the food to the kitchen.

I won’t get into the details on how almost the entire order was wrong save this two very glaring issues:  it’s hard to have fajitas with beef, chicken and shrimp if there is no beef, chicken or shrimp in any containers…and when it’s ice cold isn’t not very appetizing.
So I called QuikDine.  A woman named Kylee was instantly apologetic and repeated to me what my driver had said about Cielito Lindo closing early because they were running out of some food products.  She asked if I wanted something from a different restaurant and I told her to get me the same items from Los Portales.  Kylee said she would call me back once she was able to confirm they had what I was hoping to eat.

About five minutes later Kylee called back to say that she had found the manager of Cielito Lindo and told them what had happened.  He said that they would replace the order in it’s entirety and make sure it reached us hot and fresh.  It wasn’t even 30 minutes later that Quikdine’s driver showed up with a complete replacement order and it was hot and the food was delicious.

So thank you to QuikDine and to Cielito Lindo for going above and beyond on New Year’s Eve.  After seeing how you both made sure that you served your customer so well, we’ll be back.
